How to wear coloured jeans in winter

The weather in Toronto has been so different than the weather I experienced last week in Montreal. It’s so sunny, that I even need sunglasses, and with no slush in sight, I can even wear suede booties! There’s still a brisk chill in the air, but I can’t complain when I can step out of my house without having to wear arctic-approved ski socks. Here’s a look that kept me warm, comfortable and still feeling stylish.

IMG_9517I’m wearing a parka unlike any other classic parka I’ve ever worn. It was sent to me by Nowistyle, and features a super warm and light polyfill as well as a thick fur collar and fur-lined hood to keep me toasty. While the jacket doesn’t have any closures (other than a drawstring at the waist), I plan on adding a fur hook closure so that I can wear this on a colder day. I love the dove gray blue colour- a fresh alternative to drab black or grey. To amp up the cool colour, I paired it with aubergine-coloured jeans. STYLETIP: When wearing coloured jeans, try to match the jean colour to a heeled bootie in a complimentary (or in this case, matching) colour to elongate your legs even more. Because if you’re petite, coloured jeans can often make you look stumpy, especially when you’re wearing such a heavy coat. Wearing at least a two-inch heel will instantly lengthen your gams!

IMG_9535It was so sunny, that I wore this pair of keyhole frames I picked up for a steal on ebay. My booties were from an old… wait for it… Avon catalogue! You’d be surprised how cute some of their boot selection is… and this pair is in real suede and has lasted me a few years already. My jeans are from Urban Planet and cost next to nothing. Lastly, my leopard sweater is from Forever 21 and is one of the warmest acrylic sweaters I’ve ever laid eyes on.

I’m wearing this crocheted scarf, handmade by my sister. Check out her blog and online Etsy store! I plan on sharing more of her amazing creations in the future, this one was cooked up in under 30 minutes!

Last, but certainly not least… I accessorized the look with this tan vintage Coach city bag. I picked it up at the Junction Flea Market and it’s quickly become a go-to bag for toting around essentials, with room to spare for leather gloves too! The only problem is its condition, and I’m trying to learn tips for taking care of the leather colour while cleaning some of the stains. If you have any advice for me, please comment below.

Oh, and if you have a chance, please vote for my charity project in the Start Something with Alesse Contest!
