The Grammys last night brought out all of music’s biggest stars. I’m always excited to see Grammys fashion because the music industry has a lot more freedom for artists to express their style and personality. Last night was no exception, so here are my picks for best and worst dressed, starting with the best.
Janelle Monae was gorgeous and fashion forward in this three-piece Moschino suit. A little bit matador, but very feminine, I love that she donned a red lip with elegant clutch and sandals. Janelle always stays true to her aesthetic, and I admire that you won’t find this girl in a tacky gold bodycon dress because Hollywood says so.
In another suited pick, Beyonce looked amazing in this black and white pantsuit from Osman Studio. I love the asymetrical cut of the black and the white and her slicked back hair. Mrs Carter looked elegant and refreshing.
Florence Welch looked all her own in this custom Givenchy creation. No one could pull off this shiny studded gown, that would have made any other star look like a dinosaur. Emerald green is Pantone’s 2013 colour of the year, and it looks amazing paired with monochromatic emerald accessories and her fiery red hair.
This might be a controversial pick, but Kimbra looked stunning and fun in this Jamie Lee Major gown. I love her playful style and this gown is perfect for the Grammys.
My favourite look from last night is a no-brainer. When I saw Rihanna in that stunning red Azzedine Alaia gown, my jaw dropped. Enough about the jokes about her forehead, her lucsious locks looked amazing and elegant. A true knockout!
Katy Perry looked like a melon popsicle with boobs in this Gucci gown. The colour was delicious but it was missing shape. The only shape was created by the massive cutout revealing her ample assets. I think this gown would have been a hit if it lost the gross long sleeves and had a silhouette with a balancing bottom, like a fishtail.
I love Kat Dennings. I love Vivienne Westwood. You’d think they’d be a match made in heaven, but sadly a short blue dress with bubble wrap texture got in the way. What a missed opportunity.
Everyone was buzzing about Kelly Rowland’s peek-a-boo Georges Chakra gown. She played fire with CBS’ dress code last night, and got burned.
I liked this dress at first, but then it started to hurt my eyes… I appreciate that Adele had a departure from her usual black gowns, but this red floral Valentino number is a total opposite. I think it could have been saved with a pair of nude or black pumps and maybe a belt to break up this overwhelming print. Prints are great for talk show appearances and interviews, but I think they rarely work on the red carpet.
The worst dressed star of the night was a no-brainer as well. Jennifer Lopez did her best Angelina Jolie leg impression (hasn’t she done this before?) in this horrid Anthony Vaccarello black sheath. The dress wasn’t even steamed… I can see wrinkles from your limo ride. I’m so over one-shoulder dresses, ridiculous topknots and gladiator shoes… and congrats J-lo, you managed to combine all three!
