French luxury house Chanel unveiled their new ad campaign for fall featuring Freja Beha Erichsen.
This is the fifth consecutive season for Erichsen as Chanel’s poster girl, and there’s no denying that this campaign is a departure from their sometimes cold and earnest campaigns. I personally don’t care for the look itself, I also don’t understand the message being propagated by this shoot. Although, I like the quirk factor and personality that was given to this sombre collection inspired by volcanic dust.
Former French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld was the stylist of the shoot, and this was her first post-Vogue gig. It’s definitely a daring and risky styling concept, akin to the campaigns of Miu Miu or Marc Jacobs, hopefully this won’t detract from Chanel’s traditional and classic brand image.
