Crushed velvet

One of the biggest style trends this season is a crushed velvet dress. I styled this look with a chic black leather backpack and mid-calf boots for a chic, retro-inspired outfit.

I’m wearing a crushed velvet dress from Zara (similar pink velvet dress here), a pair of Monique waterproof boots c/o La Canadienne, and a leather backpack from Mackage.

These boots from La Canadienne are incredibly practical yet stylish. The thick heel and platform make them very comfortable. The padded footbed also adds a cushy layer, I’ve worn these out shopping a few times and can wear them all day long! The best part about this style is that they are completely waterproof! I tested this out a week ago when there was slush everywhere. I couldn’t believe that my tights were completely dry, and I didn’t get any salt or water stains on the suede either. I have my eye on the bootie version, Myrandah as well!

La Canadienne boots are made in Montreal and Italy and are cut from the finest materials. I had a chance to visit their Montreal boutique a couple months ago, and it was incredible to think I was shopping for a pair of boots that were made about half an hour away! Nowadays, it’s rare to find exquisite craftsmanship, I only wish the brand made mens’ shoes! For the waterproof aspect alone, I would highly recommend picking up a pair from La Canadienne. If you’re from a warmer, drier climate, I also love their Made in Italy pieces, which I’ve worn before in New York here.

I love how a velvet dress can be dressed up with a pair of heels or worn with tights and boots for a casual look. It’s a more comfortable alternative to sequins to ring in the New Year too! This particular version can be layered with a fur vest for added luxurious texture.

I also adore my Mackage backpack. I picked it up at a sample sale in Montreal, and I think it may be one of a kind! I love the hexagon shape and the embossed snakeskin suede details, as well as the signature Mackage arrow!

I took these photos with Chloe in Gatineau Park when the leaves were still up! Chloe also put together an OOTD video featuring our pink and black looks! Check it out below:
