How to decorate your dorm room with Moroccan flair!

While school is finishing up for many students, I’m personally gearing up already to go back to school. In September, I might be embarking on a new adventure, and while I haven’t finalized my acceptance yet, I’m already picking out my dorm decor! I wanted to share some tips on how to decorate your dorm room, and PBDorm is full of products and inspiration. While you can go to a big box store and pick up a plain comforter and a cork board, I think that a personalized space can make a dorm room feel more like a home.

When I moved to Holland two years ago, I decorated my room in shades of teal and citron, but this time around, I want to take a different direction, and incorporate an eclectic, Moroccan style to decorate my future dorm room! This style is all about mixing and matching and playing with prints and textures. It works perfectly for a cozy dorm room or small apartment, and it won’t matter if your furniture doesn’t match! Here are some of my top dorm decor picks from PBDorm.

How to Decorate your Dorm Room with Moroccan Flair:

There are many ideas on how to decorate your dorm room, but I’ll start with basic elements that have a function, but can also inject your personality in a bland small space or dorm room.

Dorm Decor Step One: Bedding

First off, I like to start with bedding. In a small bedroom, it will likely be the focal point and it can instantly update your space. PB Dorm has an amazing selection of quilts, comforters and duvet covers, along with the shams, bed skirts and throw pillows to match. I love that their sheets and pillows are customizable with monogram options, and come in many colours and sizes. I immediately fell for the beachy vibe of the Surfer’s Point Tie Dye Duvet Cover. The pinks and oranges are cheery and an elegant take on the tie dye trend.

Next, I would pair simple white sheets that can be bleached and cleaned, like the Pop Dot Sheet set which also allows for monogramming and comes in a few different coloured trims. The combinations at PBDorm are endless, and if you don’t care about being too matchy-matchy, you can collect a few sets to mix and match with your duvet.

Dorm Decor Step Two: Flooring

Whether you are blessed with wood or laminate floors, or have to deal with a musty dorm carpet, picking up an area rug and a couple poufs are a must to refresh the room and define areas in your small space. A rug under your bed or desk are a good idea, and I love the geometric print of the Peyton rug. This style is modern and clean, so you can take it with you when you move into an apartment. Next, a couple straw Moroccan-inspired poufs like the Color Pop Woven side tables do double duty as seating and can work as nightstands.

Dorm Decor Step Three: Lighting

One thing is certain for all dorm rooms, and that is a lack of light. Whether your window is tiny or you like to stay up all night studying, a few great lighting pieces will brighten up your space and add interest. I love the beaded boho style of the Catalina Beaded Chandelier, and love that no installation is required. Simply plug it in and hang it up from your ceiling or get a bracket and hook to hang it off a wall or furniture.

Of course, a sturdy desk lamp is a must-have dorm decor item. The Shine-On Task Lamp has a classic design and comes in cute colours, or you can opt for brushed stainless steel for a timeless look.

Dorm Decor Step Four: Accesories and Extras

Last but not least, punch up your space with little accents. There are so many cute throw pillows, table lamps and wall decals available at PBDorm. I love the Pom Pom Organic Pillow, Calypso Crewel Pillow Cover and the Dream Rope Decor. Storage is also important, and I really love the boho vibe of the Jacquelyne Lidded Barrel Basket.

I think the key is to invest in a couple functional pieces, as well as a couple pieces that show off your personality. While your dorm room might be a temporary situation, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t feel like home! I personally can’t wait to fill up my virtual shopping cart with tons of cool products from PBDorm, to transform my drab dorm room into a Moroccan getaway!
