How to wear a Black and White Striped Maxi Skirt

One of the hottest trends for Spring are black and white stripes. While it’s easy to wear a striped blouse or jeans, I found a gem hidden at the back of my closet. A striped maxi skirt doesn’t sound like the most flattering item to wear around your hips, but it’s all about balance and playing with proportions.

I’m wearing a vintage striped maxi skirt (similar here), a black cropped bustier from Primark, a vintage pink envelope clutch, a gold key necklace c/o Foxy Originals and black spiked stilettos.

I think the key to pulling off this look is to counteract the voluminous bottom half. I did this with my crop top, which shows an inch of skin (and no belly buttons allowed!), which makes my bottom half look extra long. What I’ve basically done is move my natural waist up with the illusion of the crop top and the high waistline of the maxi skirt. Because the skirt has so many wide and thin varying stripes, I kept it simple with a plain black bustier, but a tight cropped tee could work too.

Heels finish off the look and add some height. While some people believe a maxi must graze the floor, I think differently. It’s up to you, because a pair of 4-inch heels never hurt anyone (well, except for your feet).

I accessorized with a bright pink clutch for a burst of colour. It’s easy to get lost in black and white, especially in summer, so a colourful accessory adds interest into a monochromatic look.
