Work Wear Wednesday: How to wear a midi dress to work

This week, I wanted to share how to wear a midi dress to work. I love midi dresses, with their sexy silhouette and comfortable length. I wore this awesome Mexican print midi dress yesterday to work, and then out to a blogger networking event. I love how midi dresses are versatile enough to be viewed as “corporate” but still fun and sexy for the evening. Here are my style tips on how to wear a midi dress to work:

I’m wearing a Mexican-inspired printed midi dress from H&M (similar midi dress here), black leather shoeties from Vince Camuto, a leather Prisma backpack by Alexander Wang, Amethyst earrings c/o Far & Wide Collective and my St Andrews Lady watch c/o Daniel Wellington.

I think the big thing with wearing a printed midi dress to work is to find a dress that isn’t too tight. I love that this one hugs my hips but is looser at the waist as well. In addition, I think that a higher crew neckline is more office appropriate to balance out the bodycon silhouette. While the leg slits are a bit risque on this dress, they actually make it easier to walk in so I’m not shimmying like a mermaid all day! For shoes, I wore this dress with flats during the day, which tones down the look, while I kicked it up a notch in the evening with these fabulous black shoeties. Peep-toe booties are a huge trend for summer and are so comfy than your pair of strappy sandals. They’re also more reserved by keeping your feet concealed, so I think it’s a better option than sandals or a stiletto pump! They’re also a lot more fashionable to complete the modern look!

My Alexander Wang backpack is the perfect quirky take on a big black office bag. I love that the weight can be distributed in the straps and that it fits all my essentials!

In addition, these raw amethyst earrings are my latest edition to my office jewelry wardrobe. I love studs, but these raw amethysts are edgy and beautiful. Each pair is handmade in Afghanistan, and every purchase supports local artisans in post-conflict and developing countries. While many other companies make monetary donations, I love that Far & Wide Collective stimulates local industry and brings their craft to a world market. You can read more about Far & Wide Collective’s mission here, and I’m looking forward to sharing a full review of the earrings soon too!
