How to wear loafers

One of the hottest shoe trends last fall, and this spring are menswear-inspired loafers. If you’re wondering how to wear loafers, here’s a look that combines on-trend raw edge denim with a refined patent pair that only cost me $10!

I’m wearing a knit turtleneck top from Ardene (similar turtleneck tank here), raw edge denim from Fidelity Denim, a Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 bag and a pair of Tayden patent loafers from Target.

Style tip: How to wear loafers

The key to styling a pair of loafers is to mix up the look. A pair of loafers with a tailored pant and cardigan is too preppy and stuffy. Contrast is key. A pair of distressed denim adds some edge to conservative footwear. You can also wear loafers with a dress, and I love the look of minimalist t-shirt dresses. Again, skip the frilly socks and floral dress, keep it fresh and modern.

My loafers only cost $10 at Target. They were on sale, but extremely comfortable. They are perfect Gucci loafer dupes, and allow you to test the trend before committing to a designer pair. I actually own a pair of heeled Gucci loafers and find them incredibly uncomfortable! That’s why I was so happy to score this pair at a fraction of the price of the real deal.

If you’re still lusting over a pair of real Gucci loafers, I would definitely skip the furry slipper version. I have a feeling that a couple years from now, they will become the new wedge sneaker. However, a pair of classic Gucci loafers will always be a great footwear choice… or you can score a pair at Target for a steal like I did!

I love mixing high and low pieces. Both my loafers and my knit top were under $15, yet they work so well with a designer bag. I brought my Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 with me on my trip to San Diego because I was so excited to wear it without testing the weather, and I couldn’t believe it rained almost the entire week!

I wore this outfit out to brunch with my sister, at The Mission, an adorable, cozy cafe in East Village, San Diego. They had delicious gluten free waffles! Right after I took these pics after brunch, it started to pour, so I had to put my bag away. Sometimes I wonder if I should have stuck with the Damier Ebene print after all! While I love the luxurious look of the monogram and the delicious vachetta leather handles, I haven’t gotten enough use out of the bag because I’m scared to ruin it! Let me know in the comments below if you have any preferences in LV print, or any tips to keep the vachetta looking like new!

One of my favourite things about California was all the cool cactus gardens. My sister is a Masters of Architecture student, and so much of their design classes focus on water conservation. It’s so neat to see how innovative these succulent gardens can be, and made such a cute background for these photos. The little cacti on my windowsill are a great memory!
