La Luna Dress

La Luna Dress

Even though I was there only a day ago, sitting in my room looking at the snow outside makes this seem like a world away. This look was inspired by the colourful scene in the Mayan Riviera. From woven textiles, to stamped leather and colourful sheers evoking Caribbean imagery, this look, to me, is functional and perfect for exploring the town or visiting a Mayan ruin.

I’m wearing a chiffon palm tree printed dress c/o Roxy. I fell in love with the island print and flouncy sleeves that protect you from the sun after a long day of swimming and sunbathing by the beach. It features a high ballerina neckline (also excellent for covering up), and I love the ties at the sleeves which I plan on adorning with some coconut shell beads in the future. What I really fell in love with, was the name of the dress – La Luna. Maybe it’s my obsession with Sailor Moon, but the words, along with the dress is natural and romantic.

I accessorized the dress with this woven textile backpack I picked up in Playa del Carmen. Perfect for carrying around your beach read or DSLR.

I fell in love with these blue leather sandals featuring Mayan calendars. Even though the world did not end last week, I thought these were the perfect pair to usher in the new Mayan millenium. They are super comfy and seem to go with everything, and forget sombreros… these are a perfect souvenir.

This trip, I was addicted to piling on bracelets… and picked up a few during my travels. The turtle bracelet was from Florida, the Sweet one is from BCBGeneration, the black one was my resort band – if you could believe it! Featuring nylon cording and an embossed piece of coconut husk, for once, I didn’t attempt to cover my band with massive silver cuffs! And last but not least, I picked up this neon friendship bracelet in Playa del Carmen for only 20 pesos… a mere two bucks.

It seems weird that I was trying to cover up from the sun, but I believe you can do it with style… and incorporate the surroundings around you!
