Lotus Leaf PRESSDAYS Spring 2014 Preview

A couple weeks ago, I attended Lotus Leaf Communications’ PRESSDAYS event, where media and bloggers had a chance to see what’s in store for spring from brands like Dr. Martens, MINKPINK and Canadian fashion and accessory designers.

minkpink spring 2014 minkpink neoprene neon skirt minkpink floral blazer spring 2014 minkpink blue dressMINKPINK’s Spring 2014 collection is full of bright colours, lively prints and floral details. Daisies adorn denim bustiers and 90s cropped sweaters come in a rainbow of stripes. I loved the use of neoprene fabric in neon colours. Paired with a neutral top, that skirt makes a big statement. I also liked the more ladylike pieces like the floral blazer (a perfect winter-spring transitional piece) and this dainty Delft china dress, which features a sexy peek-a-boo cut out in the back.

kids raincoats

ruffle pink umbrella Moving into spring essentials, Raindrops, located in Holt Renfrew Centre, had plenty of wet weather options. They stock many Dutch and European brands, and I know firsthand how wet it can get over there, proving they know what it takes to make a good raincoat. I loved their refined options that look like regular peacoats with water-repellent fabrics and reflective details if you’re biking. I also loved some of their pretty printed options, and none of them were breaking the bank. My heart also swooned over that pink ruffle umbrella, I could only dream of wearing it for a stroll along the Seine.

fossil spring 2014Next, I got a sneak peek at WATCH IT!’s Spring 2014 lineup. One trend that stood out amongst Michael Kors, Fossil and Marc by Marc Jacobs is the incorporation of colour. While we’ve seen the oversized watch in many metallic iterations, I love the addition of pretty pastels and bold pinks for spring. A watch is a classic accessory to show off your style, and any of these offerings will do just that.

happy lens

A product that you have to see to believe are the Happy Lens. They filter out bad light, only letting mood-boosting wavelengths of light through the glass. This can be especially helpful in our cold winter climate, or up north where they get less daylight this time of year. The shades are available exclusively in Toronto at WATCH IT!

Their eponymous boot is updated with fun prints like polkadots, snakeskin texture and florals. One of my favourites are the chalkboard graffiti ones, which would be perfect for the street artist or quirky teacher alike. I also loved the mini kids’ line with their use of colour, print and patent finishes.

manitobah mukluks manitobah mocassins

While Manitobah Mukluks might not be the most Spring-centric footwear option, their traditional Canadian-made pieces are timeless. I’m wearing a pair right now, which are perfect for frigid sub-zero temperatures. For Spring, however, their moccasins come in a wide array of pastel colours and leather, suede and deerskin materials. I love that these have a durable Vibram sole, which won’t wear down in the city streets.esqido genuine mink lashesHow pretty are these Esqido mink lashes? I haven’t tried my pair yet, but they look so pretty in the box, and the mink lashes feel very natural. I can’t wait to give ’em a spin this New Year’s Eve.

hillberg and berk queen brooch hillberg and berk legacy collectionAlso represented at the preview was Hillberg & Berk, a jewelry line from Saskatchewan. The designer, Rachel Mielke was commissioned to create a piece for the Queen. Using the same rare piece Madagascar Tourmaline used in the Queen’s brooch, the Legacy collection is a limited edition assortment of pendants, rings and even a similar pin to the Queen’s. I interviewed her at the event, so more on that later!

silver jewelryWhile the Legacy Collection hovers around the 4 figure mark, Hillberg and Berk also has more affordable pieces, with their signature sterling silver and crystal ball designs. Pieces are customizable as well, allowing you to layer or add pendants, making it a great Christmas gift idea for a special lady!

henkaa henkaa dressesAnother good idea with the Holiday season here are Henkaa’s line of convertible dresses. At an affordable price point, the price per wear potential for this dress is extremely low. This season, they’ve brought in chiffon overlays and pins to add breathe new life into your convertible dress.

I loved seeing what’s around the corner for Spring. Colour and lively prints are trends to watch for next season. Until then, a coloured watch will be on my holiday wishlist!
