Nine West spring/summer 2014 collection preview

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to get a sneak peek of summer 2014 at Nine West’s SS14 preview. The collection was full of trends including metal accents, pale shades of blush and blue and a touch of 1960s mod.

The first trend I saw was the metal accent story. This trend is all about mixing materials… everything from leather to wood with shiny, sleek metal accents. I fell in love with that architectural sandal which had a comfy hybrid wedge/chunky heel, ankle straps and just the right touch of gold.

The high society story shows that again, but this time the shades are more muted and wearable for everyday. I loved the blush pink bow pumps and those beautiful dove gray blue flats with the 3D floral accent.

The Enzo Angiolini flat is cute and modern, while I could easily see myself wearing the ultra light Easy Spirit perforated silver sneaker – perfect for a bike ride or shopping around town!

This black t-strap tango shoe is so beautifully proportioned, and would look amazing with an LBD or any cocktail dress in my closet! My experience as a flamenco and tango dancer always has me drawn to shoes that resemble ballroom shoes. My affinity for this style might also be a result of my mom’s shoe habit, her favourite is also the t-strap stiletto.

It’s all about mixing materials and adding unique details onto ecclectic designs. The sandal above has real wood and metal details, while I fell in love with both the star perforated slippers and suede lasercut doily booties. These shoes look comfortable yet stylish, and would perfectly compliment a bohemian-inspired look. I also have my eye on the bags in this collection, especially the Proenza Schouler PS11 lookalike that comes in vegan leather and a gorgeous cherry red.

Last but certainly not least, I fell in love with these 1960s inspired shoes. I have similar pairs passed down to me from my grandmother and I love that Nine West has reinvigorated these styles from a bygone era. Comfy kitten heels (perfect for tall girls who still like the elegance of a heel) and cute patterns make these a must-have for spring.

These styles are months away from being in stores, but spring tends to come quicker than we realize. Until then, I’ll keep dreaming of slipping my feet into a pair of cute sandals…
