Peter Pilotto for Target: print mania!

peter pilotto for target

While I don’t expect to see huge lineups and barbaric fights over vinyl purses for Target’s next designer collaboration, there are plenty of pretty prints in the Peter Pilotto collection for Target. The collection drops February 9 at Target stores, on a Sunday, so you can easily wait in line for a summer-ready dress and celebrate with mimosas and a brunch afterwards. Luckily for me, this comes a day after writing the LSATs, so I’m happy I can screw up my sleep schedule and make it! Here are some of my favourite items from the line. (Sorry, no men’s this time!)

peter pilotto strapless dress peter pilotto romperAt the top of my list are both the strapless dress, $79.99 and romper, $49.99. I love the multi floral print and the pretty neckline. They are both great party pieces and definitely make a statement. I will have to see the pieces in person to decide which version I love more, and I’m hoping that the higher price tag translates into better construction and fabrics. I love my Prabal Gurung dress from last year’s collaboration, and I’m still wowed by the exquisite pattern and cut of the dress at such a low price point.

This corset bustier bikini top, $22.99 and bottom, $16.99, are stunning with the floral print and contrasting black piping which is reminiscent of the popular Aussie swimwear line, Triangl. I love bustier tops and this set (or at least just the top) is definitely on my wishlist.

peter pilotto rash guard

While I thought that neoprene was on its way out, the collection also has a couple rash guards, $29.99. While I doubt no surfer would don this floral iteration from Target, it would be a pretty piece to have for the cottage when waterskiing or suffering from a sunburn. I found it interesting how the lookbook paired the neoprene top with office-ready pencil skirts. While I’d save this one for the beach, the pattern mixing opportunities with this line is endless.

I love integrating floral prints into my wardrobe, and this t-shirt, $29.99 can easily be worn with a pair of jeans or a leather skirt for a more nighttime look. The pencil skirt, $34.99 is also a great piece for your work wardrobe.

peter pilotto target cardiganThe collection also boasts some colour block toppers. While the blazer versions are a bit much for me, I love this cobalt blue, black and white cardigan, $34.99.

peter pilotto black and white skirtI wasn’t too impressed with the way this skirt, $34.99 looked like on the models, however I’m intrigued with the wrap-skirt design and contrasting black and white fabric prints. I could easily see wearing this with a white tee on weekends or a classic white blouse.

peter pilotto palazzo pantIf you know me, you’ll know that I love a good pair of palazzo pants. They are fun and flirty, and while you may think they are man-repelling, with a delicate silk cami or bustier, they can be just as alluring as a summer dress. This pair, $39.99 mixes stripes and florals (my two favourite prints), so depending on the fit and length, they might be coming home with me.

peter pilotto shirt dress peter pilotto dressThere are plenty of printed dresses in the collection, and come in blue, red, black and white, and red colour ways. Both the shirt dress, $34.99 and the long sleeved number, $49.99 have a timeless appeal.

peter pilotto sunglassesLast, but certainly not least, I’m digging these retro floral sunnies! I don’t have a round-shaped pair, and at only $16.99, who can resist?

I think this collection has a lot of potential, as they are pieces that can easily be recreated at a lower price point. One aspect to this collection I really didn’t like were the bags, as they seemed to be boring printed totes that would make a great beach bag, however I would have loved to see the same floral prints on fabric clutches instead. There are clear pouches with the floral print inside, however I feel that the clear purse trend is on the outs. There are also some beach towels thrown into the mix, and they are beautiful! February might not have the most favourable weather, but this collection will bring a breath of spring into the store and possibly, our closets…

Please note, all prices are in $US, and with the Canadian dollar tanking, we might expect to see a higher markup on this designer collection. I will update the prices to $CAD as soon as they are available.
