Review: Theorie’s Saga Collection 1″ Touch Flat Iron

A good hair straightener is a versatile tool to have in your beauty arsenal. From sleek, straight do’s to setting curls, a good flat iron can make styling a breeze. When I first started discovering beauty and hair beyond my ballet bun and LipSmacker routine, I’m pretty sure my first hair dryer and straightener were from Zellers. I made the switch a year ago to a professional hair dryer, and the payoff has been amazing. When I was sent Theorie’s Saga Collection Touch Flat Iron, I was excited to try out this new hair straightener, and see whether it beats my $30 one.

The Touch Flat Iron was recently made available in Canada, and is available for around $175. It is distributed by West Coast Beauty, Passion Beauty Supply, Metro Beauty Supply, and Capilex Beauté. I’ve seen other pro tools cost a lot more than that, so while this is still an investment, it won’t burn a hole in your wallet. It is available in many colours including black, red, white, blue and a pretty bronze, but I was sent purple, which fits my room decor perfectly! I love the metallic shade and the corresponding stitching on the carrying case. The iron also comes with a neoprene sleeve, which is perfect for travel.

The iron itself combines several unique features. Above all, I love the 11′ (that’s right ELEVEN FOOT LONG) heat resistant textile cord. I have long hair, so I always find it a pain when I have to do the right side of my head and have to face away from the mirror because the cord is too short. This tool is professional-grade, so this little feature, while practical in a pro setting is also convenient for at-home use. The textile rope feels more durable than your average cord as well.

floating plates

The iron felt light to use and wasn’t hot to hold. There’s also an ergonomic non-slip glip, which might help to prevent any accidental burns, cracked bathroom tiles and worse, dropped flat irons! The plates on this iron are titanium, and while I always used ceramic, I was impressed by how quickly they heated up and cooled down. The iron has ionized technology and infrared heating to reduce static and frizz. Afterwards, I noticed how sleek my hair is and it lasted for a couple days. The plates are floating, which avoids hair snags (I definitely noticed this with my long hair!) and can be cleaned afterwards with a damp cloth.

The most striking feature of this iron is the touch LED control panel. The iron displays what temperature you are working at, and you can lower or raise the temperature with the + or – buttons. One problem I’ve had in the past is inconsistent heat. This iron automatically locks your desired temperature, so you have more control.

hair straightener results

I was extremely pleased with the results of this iron. My hair felt smoother and softer after straightening and every little flyaway was taken care of. I liked that I could use this iron at a lower temperature (about 350F) and still get the job done without doing too much damage. I have to confess that I normally avoid using a straightener because of potential damage, but this iron has me converted.

I also tested it on my mom, who has shoulder-length thick, curly hair, and it made her hair extremely silky, yet still full of body. (I will try to share a picture of her results soon!)
