Rožmberk castle

A couple days ago, I got to visit the Rožmberk castle. Situated in Southern Bohemia (a little over an hour away from Prague), the white castle on the top of a hill overlooks a picturesque village and the Vltava river below.

The stunning interiors and mix of Renaissance and romantic Tudor style made for a nice, brief visit. This castle is a great sight on your way to the more popular Cesky Krumlov. This castle in particular is very old, and was founded in the 13th century. It was the seat of the powerful Rožmberk family, which owned many lands (and castles) in the region.

Since the 19th century, visitors can see the castle museum. While pictures weren’t allowed, I loved the baroque interiors and the music niche within the Night’s hall which was decorated with fantastic frescos and jewels. Sadly, the original gemstones were stolen during the Thirty Years War, but are now replaced with replica stones to show the effect.

Another fascinating aspect of this castle (and the Rožmberk family in general), is the legend of the White Lady. Legend has it that Perchta was unhappy with her marriage, and was cursed. She haunts the halls of both the Rožmberk and Cesky Krumlov castles, but an eerie portrait of her in this estate will always stay in my head. Near her feet is writing in a cryptic text, and if you can read the text, the silver treasure of the Rožmberk family will be revealed and the White Lady will finally be free.

While I didn’t see the White Lady or read the inscription, I enjoyed my visit to the castle, even without the ghostly sightings. It was chillier in the morning, so I wore a floral blazer by Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s (similar here), a coral sheer blouse from Target (similar here), my Rebecca Minkoff MAC bag and the infamous white asymmetrical culotte skort from Zara.
