Street Art meets Photoshop

A street artist from Hamburg, Germany is responsible for these clever digs at the fashion industry and Photoshop. The swimwear ads for mega-retailer, H&M, feature Isabeli Fontana. While the Brazilian model is naturally toned and tanned, there’s no doubt that some digital magic has occurred, inciting this response from the German artist.

Even when I first saw these ads, the first thing that popped into my mind was: “What filters and brushes did they use to make her so tan?” Maybe I could have applied these tools to some of my own pictures to make me look less blindingly white. All joking aside, advertisements like this enforce the notion that tan is beautiful, when really, dead skin cells mean wrinkles, discolouration and cancer. I thought tan was finally on the way out?

The anonymous street artist has made his message clear, maybe their next campaign will take note. And besides… Fontana is beautiful without filters.
