khaki chiffon pleated dress h&m

Parliament Hill – khaki chiffon dress

This week I visited Ottawa to check out the law school and look for places to live. It’s been completely hectic, and having driven over 900 km in the past two days, my mom and I are exhausted. I didn’t have much time to sightsee or browse while in the Capital city, but I managed to go for a stroll along Parliament Hill on our way to dinner in Byward Market.

I’m wearing a khaki chiffon pleated dress from H&M (similar here), Dolce Vita Archer sandals, a Michael Kors Selma satchel and a statement necklace c/o Olsen Europe.

This dress was comfortable enough for the four hour drive from Toronto to Ottawa, yet elegant enough for dinner (and to make a good impression at the school). I love the contrasting black piping along the high neckline, so I drew attention to it with this gunmetal necklace featuring white and lavender opalescent stones. Olsen’s Fall 2014 collection is full of beautiful accessories, which they’re expanding more and more, and I’m excited to be sharing more soon.

After dinner, we checked out a cute bakery which was filled of colourful cookies and pastries. I wish I could have eaten one of those daisy cookies!parliament hill at night mosaika ottawaThe city was very quiet for a Thursday evening; I wish I had time to sneak in a tour of Parliament. When I go to school here in the fall, I’m definitely hoping to get in! After dinner, we watched Mosaika, a projection light show depicting Canada’s history and culture. I saw it a few years ago, but I definitely got a better view this time around.

After a full day of apartment hunting and over 15 units viewed and dismissed, it was nice to actually take in the city. It’s hard to envision myself here just yet, but the beautiful buildings and buzzing marketplace make it a very cool city I’m excited to explore.

animal kingdom leopard top

Wearing leopard at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Leopard is one of my favourite things to wear, whether it’s in a dress, a purse or a cute top. I spent last week in Orlando, and had the chance to visit a couple amusement parks including my favourite, Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I had to dress the part, which is why I wore this breezy chiffon leopard top c/o Missguided with glam accessories and pretty lace shorts.

It’s as close to an authentic safari you will get on this continent, complete with free-ranging animals and a bumpy ride on a jeep. I recommend you do this as soon as you enter the park to avoid lines, and catch animals while they’re more active. I did the safari later in the day again, and all the lions were hiding behind Pride Rock (yes, they have one there). It’s a magical experience and I came nose to nose with giraffes, zebras and a fancy looking ostrich.

asian fruit batThere are also adventure trails in the African and Asian section where you can see animals in natural zoo settings. I love looking at the bats (the one above gave quite the show), and the majestic tigers.

The trails have ruins and fake artifacts, and I took some pictures in front of this pretty mural. My leopard top is c/o Missguided, my lace shorts are from Bluenotes (similar here), I’m wearing my Miu Miu glitter sunglasses, Michael Kors watch, a giraffe bracelet, and my new Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC in a beautiful periwinkle.

I love the tulip shape of this blouse, and the high neck. It’s very flattering and works for both summer with shorts or in winter with a pair of leather leggings.

The park has plenty of attractions, but I personally like to stick to watching the animals. The Tree of Life is at the heart of the park, and was carved by artists and features over 300 animals. Flamingos and kangaroos hang around the base of the tree, and I was inspired by the girly coral hues of the flamingos, making me reach for my favourite coral lipstick, Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in #42.

spectacled owlThe Birds of Flight show was incredible to watch. I’m a big owl fan and I got to go on stage and meet these guys.

finding nemo musicalI ended my day with the Finding Nemo Musical (this needs to get onto Broadway already!) and a pint of gluten free cider. I love Animal Kingdom because the zoo has a wide variety of animals with natural habitats, attractions for kids and fun shows thrown in there too.

Chanel Cruise Collection 2013

Versailles. The stomping grounds of Kings, Queens and of course, couture. Karl Lagerfeld unveiled his 2013 Chanel Cruise collection yesterday, and it was a spectacle fit for the Royal Court.

There was no doubt some 18th Century inspiration. The frilly décolletage and tiered lace sleeves seem to echo Marie Antoinette… but the bottom seems to suggest a take on 18th Century menswear.

The collection was shaken up right before the presentation, and Lagerfeld injected some urban edge with denim, leather and casual silhouettes. This was done only a week after last week’s election in France, and to reflect the new left-wing government. Karl himself deemed it “Versailles in a socialist France.”

Check out my full review after the jump.

In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, here’s a look that’s entirely green… well, a shade of green. My favourite hue of the season (possibly all time), mint!

I’m wearing a mint blazer from H&M, a chiffon blouse, also from H&M, and Zara skinnies. I love these jeans, and I have to snatch ’em up in yellow and coral as well.

My favourite accessory are my vintage turquoise suede smoking slippers… a treasure found in my mother’s shoe room. Yes, she has a room for her shoes. I took them with me to Europe, knowing they’d look perfect frolicking between the tulips and along the cobblestones of Rome.

To match the look, I’m also wearing a mint crossbody purse, a gift from my mother.

The latest addition to my arm party is this rope bracelet from Paris. I love the Eiffel Tower charm and the way it compliments my rosegold watch.

This look wouldn’t be complete without a pistachio macaron from Laduree! Even though rose petal is my favourite, the pistachio looks so cute with my outfit. Pastries matching outfits? I think yes.

Have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day! I’ve already got my drink on, with a glass of Pinot accompanying my blog post-writing and essays.

Chiffon Dreams

Chiffon Dreams… this look was inspired by the falling leaves.  Chiffon is weightless and has so much movement, it reminds me of the way the leaves dance this time of year.

I’m wearing a vintage nude chiffon blouse, that has gorgeous lace details.  I think it might have been an undergarment, but I love the underwear as outerwear trend.  I’m wearing nude shoes from Zellers- they have leopard printed soles and are irresistible!

My bag was a birthday gift from a friend, but I love the elegant tassle and bejewelled handle.  My skirt is from Forever XXI.  At first, I wasn’t too keen on mixing blush colours with a dirtier mustard, but I think it compliments the vintage, old fashioned look I’m going for.
