Orange at the Cottage

Today’s look was inspired by one of my favourite colours of the moment – orange. Perfect for both summer and fall, the cheery colour is warm and fun to incorporate into an outfit.

I’m wearing a scarf print chiffon blouse from Kohl’s, white eyelet shorts from H&M and kitten-heel pumps from Joe Fresh.

I am absolutely in love with these shoes! They combine so many fall trends in one. Featuring a geometric print (seen on the runways of Prada, Marc Jacobs) and their slipper silhouette is a hot trend as well. I love the combination of orange and green, it reminds me of pumpkin spice lattes, synonymous with the fall season.

I adore the print of this blouse. It reminds me of an Hermes ad I saw a while ago, combining rich royal purples with their signature orange. I’m also wearing a small orange baguette that I bought in Venice.

The best part about this look is that it’s cozy and casual enough for the cottage if you swap the heels for flip flops. An easy-breezy top and shorts is my unofficial summer uniform, and I will definitely be wearing this blouse and shoes with jeans once fall weather sets in. How do you take summer outfits and make them fall appropriate? Comment below!

Wearing orange in the Netherlands

Orange is one of the hottest colours this year, and was popping up all over at Amsterdam Fashion Week, on the runways and on the streets. I fell in love with this orange feather boa on sale at Zara in Amsterdam, it shows off my love for the colour and this country.

I styled the boa with a leopard print sweater, and an oversized key necklace from Forever XXI. The orange definitely adds pop to the neutral colours in the print.

I’m also wearing a gold watch and gold jeans from Joe Fresh.

I love how I can wear this boa loose as a quirky stole. It would look very dramatic with an evening dress and a chic undo. My booties were another find in Dam Square, but yesterday I got caught in a cobblestone and nearly face planted! Lesson learned: cobblestones + four inch heels + a few glasses of wine = danger!

I finally got a picture with the sign and no tourists. Every time I take the train from Utrecht to Amsterdam, I fall more and more in love with the city.

Thank you Hanna Downs for the photographs.

Amsterdam Fashion Week – Day Two: Streetstyle

Today, I headed to Amsterdam Fashion Week. ¬†Unfortunately, I came to early to catch Grazia Magazine’s show by Elise Kim, but I met a few people there and snapped some pictures of fashionable attendees.

I could not get over this Givenchy handbag! It had beautiful structure and contrasting details. I could only dream about owning a showpiece like this!

One trend that popped up quite a bit was the colour orange. Tangerine tango is the it-colour of 2012, according to Pantone, and it is without a doubt, the Netherlands’ signature hue. The colour popped up on accessories, from boots to scarves.

There was only a light drizzle today, but this umbrella is more about drama than functionality. His sunglasses were unlike anything I’ve seen before, and he’s got layering down pat. I’m starting to learn from Dutch people, layering is essential in this dampness!

This model-off-duty caught my eye. Very casual chic, and she’s brave to wear nylons in this cold, wet weather.

I’m in love with her rose gold collar necklace… and her simple, black Prada bag.

People in the Netherlands dress pretty different than what I’ve seen in North America. Nothing is begging for attention, and a high-quality designer handbag is the centrepiece of any outfit. I guess I’m used to seeing Torontonians decked out in crazy attire (myself included), gasping for attention when the red carpets roll out for Fashion Week. There’s a simplistic, nordic refinement to everyone’s look here.

Tomorrow, I’ll watch the Green Fashion Competition, I’m so excited to see Dutch fashion in action, so check back for more AFW coverage soon!
