Vera Wang Fall 2012 Bridal Collection

Vera Wang Fall 2012 Bridal Collection

Here comes the bride, all dressed in… Black?  Yesterday at Vera Wang’s Fall 2012 Bridal  show, models wore wedding gowns in shades of nude and black – only.  The collection seemed a little bit more witchcraft than wedding.

The gowns had deconstructed chiffon with unfinished edges.

There was a lot of transparency in the tulle overlays that created some stunning effects.

My favourite gown was the gothic one with the French lace overlay.  We usally see this done in white, but the contrast between the nude and muddy black is both romantic and dramatic.  I could imagine wearing this gown to a Royal ball in Spain… a girl can dream.

While the colour pallette might not be suitable for the average bride, I commed Wang’s effort to stray from conventionality and create a collection that stands apart.

Some of the dresses came in blush (one of my favourite colours to wear), that are a perfect option for women whose skin colour gets washed out in white, or for a second-time bride.  I think that finally, people are breaking archaic social conventions, and Wang is taking note of this.  No one can argue that Reese Witherspoon didn’t look like the perfect blushing bride in her pink wedding gown this summer.

In the end, most brides that aspire to have a Vera Wang gown will custom order it anyways, so there’s no reason one of these organic and earthy designs will be seen in ivory.
