WMCFW Day 2 Recap: Narces Spring 2015

Yesterday at World Mastercard Fashion Week, Narces presented their Spring 2015 collection, which was full of beautiful diaphanous gowns accented with lace overlay, and flirty mini dresses. The collection drew inspiration from Victorian-era birdcages.

“My family and I were in the south of Spain last year and I became captivated by a Victorian birdcage collection on display in a castle,” says designer Nikki Wirthensohn, “This led me to more research around the concept of bird cages in general which coincided with my fascination of mesh materials; both woven and knitted.”

Many of the dresses in Wirthensohn’s collection drew direct inspiration, with bell-shaped skirts, mesh cage fabrics and ornate details. Here are some of my favourite looks from the Narces Spring 2015 collection.

The collection was right on point with next season’s haute hue. Several dresses were a beautiful butter yellow hue, but I love how Narces mixed it up with different fabrics and textures.

I love the attention to detail with these dresses. Embroidery, beading and lace overlay adorned many looks in the collection.

For me, these two looks fell a bit flat. The first smock dress lacks shape (and would have looked better with a weightier fabric), and the look above has too much going on.

Pink was the other main colour in this collection, and while I love a cute dress with pockets, I adore the combination of the mesh fabric with the solid pink. The silhouette is also very feminine and I love the trompe l’oeil effect the mesh side panels create. This shade of coral flamingo pink is also so fresh!

There were also a few adorable LWD’s (Little White Dresses) in the collection. I love the hippie chic feel of the daisy-patterned lace, while the first dress with the sheer neckline, princess sleeves and collar has a great retro vibe. It would be perfect for the vintage bride!

As we move into fall and winter, the Narces Spring 2015 collection was a complete breath of fresh air, and has me waiting for the song birds to return in spring!
