WMCFW Fall 2014 Day 3 Recap: Pink Tartan, Joe Fresh, Mackage & more

The third day of WMCFW is arguably the busiest. Packed with superstar shows, I felt like I spent the whole day at the tents in David Pecaut Square. Christopher Bates’ fall 2014 collection kicked things off with a dapper tailored collection, followed by Outclass, a men’s line that encapsulated Canadian cabin chic. Later, I checked out Pink Tartan’s fall 2014 collection, with rich furs that blended into the faux fur options available at Joe Fresh’s fall 2014 show. The last show of the night, Mackage, was an urban commuter’s dream with winter coats that were extremely chic and functional.

Pink Tartan was an interesting and refreshing change for this fall. While the duvet coat isn’t the most wearable, it had everyone lifting up their iPhones to snap a picture. I loved the use of luxurious dyed furs to accentuate collars and a backpack. I love the third look, which featured a beautiful metallic bronze brocade dress and sumptuous fur.

If faux-fur is more your speed, Joe Fresh’s fall 2014 collection is full of pieces with faux fur trim, and textured faux fur jackets. I loved the colourblocked jacket with an easygoing sweatshirt silhouette, as well as the oversized grey coat with a rope belt. The colour palette for this collection was predominantly grey and khaki, but I loved how they infused pops of orange into the accessories and linings of jackets.

My favourite pieces, however, were the stunning printed dresses. I can’t tell if they’re silk or polyester, but I’ll be sure to pick up some of these elegant printed pieces come fall.

Mackage’s fall 2014 collection was cool and very wearable. I loved the quilted leather bomber, fur skirts and adorable (and probably extremely warm) fur tuques. Models wore chic Frends headphones and new versions of Mackage’s line of structured handbags. I also loved the green and navy plaid print which appeared on a sleek jacket and pant, and a gorgeous floor-length coat that I would love to own.

Halfway through the show, the audience erupted into laughter when male models, dressed as caretakers appeared in leather work jumpsuits to “sweep” the runway of its leaves, ushering the transition of the collection from fall to winter.

The second half of the collection featured beautiful parkas and wool coats in shades of deep navy and black. I love how the brand is updating some of their signature winter parkas with beautiful details like black fur, leather sleeves and quilted detailing. A pink coat stood out from the darker pieces, which is a fun option during the drab winter months.

Tonight I’ll be checking out Mackage’s little sister brand, Soia & Kyo, so check back for more!
